JOHN TRELFA - In memoriam

John Trelfa passed away on Saturday night.

John was a very popular and charismatic member of the Scarborough Athletic Club, he will be missed very much.

His family has requested that as many friends as possible attend the funeral at Woodlands Crematorium on Tuesday 13th December at 11:20am.

John would like a 'Humanist' funeral - this is one that celebrates the life of a non-religious person, the British Humanist Association describes a Humanist as:

"...are atheists and agnostics who make sense of the world using reason, experience and shared human values. We take responsibility for our actions and base our ethics on the goals of human welfare, happiness and fulfilment. We seek to make the best of the one life we have by creating meaning and purpose for ourselves, individually and together."
4x400 in York, 14th. August 2011

John also would like that all his running club friends and colleagues come to his funeral dressed in their running kit.

So, please go wearing your Scarborough AC vest (shorts as well if you wish but if a bit cool then I'm sure that leggings are acceptable as well!)

And also if you have a bandana, especially a red one then please wear it as we all remember John always running in his bandana.

"The Great Potato Weigh-In" 2011

The 2011 Great Potato Weigh-In competition in Wold Newton (UK), was launched at the begining of the spring when the potato buckets were handed out to those members interested in participating. This year nearly 50 people participated in this local and funny competition, including Tom Guallar and Janet Brown.
After some months trying to grow the biggest weight of potatoes in those little buckets, last sunday, the 4th. of September, in the gardens of Wold Newton Hall, they gave the prizes for the winners.

Congratulations to the winner, Lynton Batten, who recorded a crop of 3,721 kgs.

But the most important for us was that Tom finish in SECOND position with 3,609 kgs. of potatoes and Janet THIRD with 3,270 kgs. Tom and Janet won a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine.

Thank you Philip! without all your work this, wouldn't have happened. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

After many hours of weeding, watering and pruning, the vegetable plot has started to produce. The first and only rhubarb known to be grown in Spain was made into a deliscious tart by Janet Brown. Thanks to Phil Brown's ingenious plan of smuggling tomato plants disguised as wine bottles we are now enjoying a crop of cherry tomatos. Other Boscos de Montnegre produce includes green beans, lettuces, pumpkins, peppers, corn, beef tomatoes and greens.

The last week of June has seen temperatures of 37 degrees in the shade. Almost impossible to keep cool except after 10pm when the mozzies come out. We managed to find a mountain stream which still has water flowing and the dogs spent about 15 minutes enjoying the cool clear waters of Montseny. Any exercise is advisable to be finished by 9am as Oscar found out on Saturday when he took the dogs running in the midday heat. Only mad dogs and Englishmen?
