Major Stone Half Marathon

4 members of Scarborough Athletic Club competed very successfully at the Major Stone Half marathon which took place at Lockington, near Hull. The race which is very undulating with hardly any flat ground consisted of a very scenic one lap course in a nature conservation area. The runners were hampered somewhat by some strong winds in advance of later gales, but the Scarborough quartet all recorded their best times of the year for the half marathon distance.

The first home for Scarborough was Louise Brown who finished in 11th overall and for the second consecutive road race was the first woman to cross the line, following on from her race win at the Burnsall 10 mile race which was also over a hilly course. Louise’s time of 81 minutes 24 seconds was the 7th fastest time in this year’s Yorkshire Women Rankings.

Louise was followed home by her husband Oscar Guallar who finished up in 20th place, and with a personal best time of 89.22.

Neil Scruton and Steve Bannister finished in first and second places respectively in the Over 60 division. Neil’s finish time of 91.24 and Steve’s 98.14 were their best times for the half marathon this year.
