North of England Track & Field League - Match 2 (ENG)

A combined total of 16 Scarborough Athletic Club athletes competed in the second round of the the Northern League Division 3 fixture, which was held at the Clairville Stadium Middlesborough on Saturday 4 June in unseasonal cold, wet and windy weather. There was some excellent individual results at this meeting, with a total of 14 individual event wins, 10 of which were achieved by a very strong women's team, who also achieved a win in the 400 metres relay. However after what was a close contest throughout the match, and with only 9 points separating 3 of the 5 teams, Scarborough had to settle for 4th place, but after the win in the first match, they are in the second overall. The club now has 2 matches at their 'Home' track at the Huntington Stadium York, when they hope to see the return of some of the male athletes who were unavailable for the Middlesborough match.

One of the top races of the meeting was the Women's 300 metres, which as expected became a battle between Scarborough's Louise Brown and former Scarborough athlete and Scotland international athlete Maxine Czarnecka. After running together for the opening laps, Louise edged ahead around the half way point, and went on to achieve a splendid victory. Almost immediately after finishing the race, Louise entered the 'A' High Jump and achieved joint 3rd with her opening jump before she left to warm down. Louise increased her points haul with a runner up spot in the 'A' 400 metres, and 4th in the 'A' Long Jump.
