McCain UK Mountain Running Challenge (Keswick)

Three members of Scarborough Athletics Club competed in races at the inaugural United Kingdom Mountain Uphill Championships, which was held at Keswick on Sunday June 12. The races also incorporated trials for the European Championships which will be staged in Bursa, Turkey on July 9th, and this was considered to be the best ever domestic uphill only mountain races with real strength in depth.
In the Junior women’s race, which was over 3.9 km. with a testing 400 metres of climb, Charlotte Edge who will be representing England in an international mountain running race in Slovenia later this month, had an excellent race to finish up in 7th place, which augurs well for her second international race.

Louise Brown who has been the club’s most successful athlete on the road and track this year, competed in the Senior Women’s race which was over 8,9 kilometres with 900 metres of climb. Louise reached the finish line at the Skiddaw summit in an excellent 12th place overall.

In the Senior Men’s race, which consisted of 12,2 kilometres with 1,100 metres of climb, Louise Brown’s husband, Oscar Guallar completed this extremely tough course in 35th place (see MAP).

They climbed: Latrigg, 368 m. (twice), Little Man, 865 m. and Skiddaw, 931 m.
