Chester Marathon 2011

Three members of Scarborough Athletic Club competed in the third running of the Chester Marathon, which took place on a faster new course, which was mainly on losed roads which covered 17 miles in England and 9 miles in Wales. The race started in the city centre before heading out to Cheshire and North Wales villages, before returning along the banks of the River Dee for a grandstand finish at the Chester Racecourse with a packed grandstand of spectators. The race was also very well supported in all the villages on the route, on what was pleasantly warm morning with light cooling breezes.

The first of the Scarborough trio to cross the finish line was Oscar Guallar who had entered the race with his wife, Louise Brown, who unfortunately sustained an injury which led to her withdrawal. Oscar achieved a season best time for the distance of 3 hours and 4 minutes and was 87th overall of over 3,000 finishers.

Chris Allen who was competing in his first marathon for two years, was pleased to improve on his previous time at Edinburgh when finishing well up the field in 3 hours 38 minutes and 550th overall.

Mally Sweetlove who was taking part in his second marathon this year, and has been in good form since his 60th birthday in March the year, completed the race in a good time of 3 hours and 52 minutes, and finished ahead of all but the first quarter of the finishers in 864th place.
